HVAC Renovations - Benton Convention Center

City of Winston-Salem

Winston-Salem, NC

Following a comprehensive study of this 196,000 square foot facility, this project called for the replacement of 19 air handling units, 3 cooling towers and a 250 ton chiller.  Also the entire HVAC control system was replaced with a DDC system. The existing air handling equipment was 31 years old, largely inoperable and in a nearly inaccessible location.  This project not only addressed restoring the systems to a fully functioning condition, but also improved access to equipment by reconfiguring the mechanical space via a new raised rooftop penthouse design.  Construction of this project was no small feat given the downtown location of this facility.  Also, project phasing was designed to allow for the Civic Center to continue functioning during construction.
