Bioquest Expansion

NC Museum of Life and Science

Durham, NC

The museum’s Bioquest expansion project is the creation of several outdoor natural science exhibits.  The 9-acre plan is to link people, animals and plants with interactive displays in a natural setting.  The project engineering design was to incorporate a broad base of infrastructure systems to compliment the function of each exhibit.  The “Catch the Wind” exhibit includes a seed flight tower, gale force wind yard and sail boat pond.  The “Explore the Wild” exhibit utilizes field cameras, sensing devices, microphones and computers to explore an abandoned quarry basin.  Overall infrastructure needs in this project include site lighting, expanded parking, restrooms and disability access.
