This project involved the plumbing, HVAC and electrical design for a new 59,000 square foot elementary school. Plumbing design included more than 150 fixtures and a full service kitchen. Working closely with the owner, HVAC systems were designed for ease of maintenance and operation by incorporating separate standalone cooling systems (35 units, 130 tons total) for each classroom/zone with ample working space around the equipment. A central 80 hp boiler generates hot water for heating. A 10,000 gallon above-ground oil storage facility fuels the boiler and kitchen water heater. DDC controls link this school to the central school maintenance office. Electrical design included power, lighting, telecommunications, television and fire alarm. The 2,000 amp main service is supplemented by a 180 kW diesel generator such that the facility may be partially utilized as an emergency shelter.
