Main Electrical Upgrades

Craven Regional Medical Center

New Bern, NC

With electrical system loads at the hospital approaching generator capacity, a new essential, open-ended, electrical system was designed which took advantage of recent technology advances.  The first phase of the project included the parallel switchgear, distribution equipment, and a new 1,135 kW generator.  Later project phases replaced two existing 650 kW generators with new 1,135 kW gensets.  Present system capacity is 3.4 MW.  The system has automatic generator optimization and will shed non-essential loads in the event of a generator failure.  The system is designed to accept a fourth 1,135 kW generator without modifications and to accept additional generators with minimal equipment modifications.
